South Carolina to offer free code education for all residents

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The S.C. Department of Commerce's Office of Innovation, in collaboration with Build Carolina, today announced SC Codes, a new statewide program designed to provide free access to code education for all residents. A first-of-its-kind, state-funded resource, the new platform connects students with experienced industry mentors and provides pathways for continuing education and employment in technology-related fields.


Spartanburg County to Offer Community Information Session for Residents Interested in Manufacturing Careers

SPARTANBURG, SC —  July 2, 2018 — Spartanburg County will host an information session to connect residents with pathways to a career in manufacturing. Through a statewide partnership, an accelerated Lean Manufacturing certification has been developed and will be initially accepted by BMW’s Supplier Network in lieu of one year’s manufacturing experience.
Attending residents will learn about the accelerated certificate and the opportunities available with BMW’s Supplier Network upon completion of the program.


Synthomer expanding its manufacturing operations in Spartanburg County

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Synthomer today announced plans to expand its existing manufacturing operations in Spartanburg County. The company is investing $16 million and is expected to create 10 new jobs as a result.

(Keurig), a leader in specialty coffee and innovative single-serve brewing systems, today announced plans to construct a new, state-of-the-art roasting and packaging facility in Spartanburg County, S.C. The company is projected to bring $350 million of capital investment and create 500 new jobs.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Magna International, a mobility technology company and one of the world's largest automotive suppliers, is expanding its seat manufacturing plant in Spartanburg County. The company's $8 million expansion is projected to create 130 new jobs.


Spartanburg Community College Announces 2018 Economic Visionaries

Spartanburg, S.C. - Four exceptional Upstate companies were named 2018 Economic Visionaries by Spartanburg Community College at the annual Economic Visionaries event held at the Spartanburg Marriott on Thursday evening, March 22. Businesses honored for transforming the Upstate economy were Crow & Bulman Engineering, Johnson Development Associates, Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District and AFL. The guest speaker for the evening was Lynn Good, president, chairman and chief executive officer of Duke Energy, one of America's largest electric power companies. Amy Wood, anchor News Channel 7/WSPA TV, was the event emcee.
